Swim Season Update
Dear Swim Families!
I sincerely hope this finds you all well and in good health. I also hope you are surviving digital learning with your wonderful children....and all the other things we're juggling these days :)
As we have crept further into spring I know many of you have started to think about the swim season, and have some questions. I do not have all the answers, BUT we do have some direction, and the league has made some decisions. It goes without saying, but I'll say it again anyway: the covid-19 situation is fluid and changing constantly. The league, as well as all the team boards, have been in communication and are working on how to make this season work with the little certainty we have. With that being said, here is where we are....
- June 1st: The season start date has been pushed to June 1st. This will be the first opportunity for swimmers to get in the water. However, please know that this could change again. Moving the swim season dates also hinges on all teams HOA approvals. Each team is working closely with their communities and working hard to come to agreements
- Modified Season: An option that has been discussed is going from a 6 meet season to a 4 meet season. This will depend on timing and HOA approval of pool access later into the Summer.
- Registration: We continue to encourage registration! If we have the opportunity to start up the season in a hurry, we need to be ready to go! So we are asking you to please not leave your registration for the last minute. We will be keeping the early bird pricing throughout all of registration and ask that you be registered by MAY 15th.
IF the season is canceled, families will receive 100% refund. If you have NOT already registered, we'd like to ask you to consider paying by check when you do. We will hold checks and only process them when we know for sure we are moving forward with the season. In the event of cancellation, this will save the team a lot of money in processing fees incurred through online payment refunds. Mail or drop checks to our treasurer, Angie Zimmerman @ 3260 Kates Way, Duluth 30097
- County Championship: The league has unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 championship meet at GaTech. I know this is a disappointment to many. The cost is just too high with too much uncertainty; combined with if there will even be time at the end of the Summer to hold the event. This in turn will open up more flexibility to make the most of any time we have to hold a revised season.
- Swim Suits: All fittings are canceled and we will NOT be purchasing new team suits this year. Please plan on your swimmer wearing black or black/blue combo,or anything they have that works! Any families that have suits that do not fit your swimmer anymore, please email us! We'd like to collect all of these and go through the sizes and offer as an option for new swimmers or families without fitting suits. Stay tuned for another email regarding how to get these to us!
- The Minis will still swim! If we do start the season on June 1st, the Minis will start the same day and go through July 2nd. This will give them the same number of practice days as originally scheduled. Please be reminded of the Mini's new practice time: 11:05-11:35am
- TBD DECISIONS for: Picture day, Mock Meet, Banquet, Parent Meeting, Adult Mixer. We are working on moving these events around on the calendar. However, new dates, or if we will be able to hold each of these, will all be determined by the final decision for the season.
- The board will make the official decision for the season, mid-May. As more guidelines are released by the governor as well as the CDC towards the end of April, this will help guide their decision.
- REMIND! If you have not joined this seasons new remind message group, please do! This will help us greatly with getting quick communication out to everyone. Text @mrswim20 to 81010
We are so very grateful for your patience and support as we navigate all the uncertainty in this situation. We want so much to get our swimmers in the water and see our summer families again! The health and safety of our swim families is our top priority, and all decisions made by the league, as well as MRST will reflect that.
Thank you all and stay well!
April Okeson and the MRST Admin Board
